The group is headed by Dr. Michael Montgomery, a professor in the Department of Meteorology at the Naval Postgraduate School. Dr. Montgomery maintains a personal web page.

The Montgomery research group is conducting new research on the birth of hurricanes/typhoons, rapid intensification, and secondary eyewall formation as well as other geophysical fluid dynamical problems associated with intense atmospheric vortices and other vortical systems. We are conducting observational, theoretical, experimental and computational fluid dynamical studies as part of these objectives.
